The Italian military has awarded a significant contract to the Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (LRMV) joint venture for the supply of 21 KF-41 Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs). This initial order is a major step in Italy’s “Army Armoured Combat System” (A2CS) program to modernize its ground forces.
In a notable move for the program, the first vehicles from this contract are scheduled for delivery before the end of 2025.
The order for the 21 vehicles is uniquely split into two configurations:
* 5 vehicles will be delivered with Rheinmetall’s Lance mk2 turret.
* 16 vehicles will be equipped with Leonardo’s own Hitfist 30 turret.
This initial procurement is just the beginning of a potentially larger deal. The contract also includes options for an additional 30 Lynx IFVs, as well as a comprehensive package for training and advanced simulation systems to support the new fleet.
The LRMV joint venture, which combines the expertise of Italy’s Leonardo and Germany’s Rheinmetall, was established to be a key player in the modernization of Italy’s heavy armored fleet. This contract for the KF-41 Lynx, a next-generation tracked vehicle, marks a critical first order for the new European defense partnership.
